From the Heart:

Who Am I? I was born for a reason. I may not know the reason, but it is there. Some seem to know what they must do as the light shines and they follow. Others guide us on our journey. Some take our hand and lead us as it was designed. Others may try to detour us. There is no sign which tells us who will be of help or who will hinder. We must open our heart and our mind and listen. There are times it will be easy to choose and there will be times the choice will be most difficult. As we walk along our path to the future, from time to time we must stop and reflect on where we are going. We must at those times listen to our heart and our mind. If we are not following the light of our life, we must change; we must listen anew casting aside that which is not of the way. He has said, I am the light, the way, and the hope. The light is our way to happiness. Without the light, there is disparage and destruction.

I hope this past year has been a blessing. Let us take a moment and reflect on our path in life.

Donald

Genealogy

When you browse the newsletters, specifically marriage and death announcements, if you do not see a picture or location along with the name, I do not have one. As a result, the recorded history for this event in the person's live will not be fully recorded.

Keep me in mind when you change your email provider or postal address as this will assist me in getting the newsletter announcement to you. Check here for the 33 families for who I presently need an updated email address.

Anyone who received the newsletter via the postal mail, and who was born in 1940 or later, will be dropped from the postal distribution. They need to contact me and provide their email address if they wish to receive the newsletter next year. This does not affect anyone born before 1940.

If you should distribute a family newsletter, would appreciate if you might send me a copy as it will help to keep me up-to-date.

The Omnibus Web Site's home is located at www.schulteis.com/omnibus/index.htm
Thanks to Donovan James Schulteis of Great Falls, Montana for hosting it.

Suggest you review this newsletter in say two months. Past experience has shown much family information is acquired in the month following the release of the newsletter. Those who receive the postal distribution will not see the updated information.

A remembrance, and they hold your hand
A picture, and you live on forever"

Schulteis Family

The pictures on your right are of Mathias M. Odenbrett and Katharina Appolonia (Schulteis) Peas. Mathias was the husband of Maria Elizabeth Schulteis, first born (1846) of Peter and Anna Maria (Merkel) Schulteis. After their marriage in 1871, the family lived in a house located to the east of the Schulteis homestead house building in Richfield, Washington County, Wisconsin. After the 1880 census and before 1883, the family moved to the Odenbrett homestead located in Fussville, Waukesha County, Wisconsin. Maria Elizabeth died in 1891 in Fussville; we do not have a picture of her. Mathias died in 1929 in St. Cloud, Minnesota.

The second picture is of Katharina Appolonia (Schulteis) Peas. Katherine, also a daughter of Peter and Anna Maria, was born in 1849 and married Adam Peas in 1876. The family lived in Verona, North Dakota. Katherine died in February 1912 in Verona. Adam died in December of 1912 in Auburndale, Wood County, Wisconsin. We have no picture of Adam.

Herman Joseph Schulteis (1812-1889), brother of Peter Joseph served in the War of the Rebellion (Civil War) 1861-1865. At the time he and his wife Margaret and their four children were living in Port Washington, Ozaukee County, Wisconsin. He volunteered in Milwaukee joining the 1st Wisconsin Cavalry as a Hospital Steward. In mid 1863 he was promoted to 1st Lieutenant and was the officer in charge of the Commissary. He served for two years and resigned from service on 04 March 1864 although he was home recuperating since November 1863. The last child of Herman and Margaret was Albert born on 01 July 1865. They had ten children with five reaching maturity. The family moved to Washington D.C. about 1866. Herman died there in 1889 and Margaret in 1898. We have no picture of Herman nor Margaret nor contact in the family.

A history of the 1st Wisconsin Cavalry while Herman was a member can be found here.

Siegl Family

The picture on the left is of the Siegl house and barn taken in the 1940s. It was built by Johann Siegl after WW I (1919-1921) and located southwest of the original building. In 1945, Johann, his wife Wilhelmine Baumann and children were forcibly removed in what was called the Sudetenland Expulsion. By the 1980s, the house had so deteriorated it was removed. The barn had been removed many years earlier. In 2006, a bulldozer came and removed all vestiges of the Siegl family ever having lived there; the buildings' foundation and surrounding fruit and nut trees were removed.

Deaths:

Sister Anne Kachelmeier OSF (SSSF) of the School Sisters of St. Francis on 26 January 2007 in Milwaukee, Milwaukee County, Wisconsin, USA. She was also known as Sister Mary Virgilia OSF. Sister Anne was the daughter of the late Frank Joseph Kachelmeier and the late Frances Josephine Halamka of Slinger, Wisconsin. Her parents and later her brother Frank owned and operated the Palace Bakery in Slinger. She was 99 years.

Happenings:

As you can tell, distribution of the Siegl family heritage book was delayed another year. We are continuing to verify source information at the Court Houses in Milwaukee and Washington Counties primarily for four family lines: the Meingast family, the Tauer family, the Kachelmeier family, and the Kachelmeyer family. Consider it important to view this information for several reasons; (1) to identify the names of parents, (2) to confirm known information, (3) to identify the event's location, and (4), to obtain other interesting facts such as occupations and residences. You say this is taking a long time and yes, it is. For events which occurred after 1930, in Milwaukee you may look up but 10 of these events on a single visit, and you may do this but once a month. On the other hand, will only publish the heritage book once so I would like for it to include as much information as possible. And, for our Siegl cousins in Germany, they do not have the opportunity to do this research.

More important, one German branch of the family (Franz and Anna) is presently being updated. With the receipt of this information we will go to print. The book will be some 400 pages with 423 pictures.

Thanks to all my cousins who helped in the research effort.
