Michael D. Depew was born 1943 in Denton, Texas, and lived in the Dallas area until 1980. He moved to New York City and then to Northern Virginia near Washington, D.C. in 1980. Returned to the Dallas area in 1996.
He graduated from Dallas Kimball High School in 1961, studied physics and electrical engineering at MIT and accounting at SMU and graduated from UTA with a BS in Mathematics.
He worked for Wyatt’s and Kroger Food Stores for 11 years, starting during junior high school and continuing through college. After college, Michael worked for Mobil Corporation for more than 33 years.
Positions at Mobil included accountant; auditor; computer programmer; systems analyst; project leader; international data center, telecommunications and computer security coordinator; and Manager of Global Computer Security and Disaster Recovery.
After retiring in January 2000, Michael volunteered as a physics teacher, tutor and substitute math teacher and provided computer, network and computer security support and advice to several nonprofits.
In retirement, he continued to pursue his hobbies of photography, computers and cooking. He also led Biblical-based study and discussion groups.
Friends and family relied on Michael for computer support, repair and upgrades. He was always ready to explain technical issues in a language that the non-technical could understand.
Michael will be missed, but he will also continue to be with us in the form of his love and concern for friends and family.
Survived by his wife of 28 years, Patricia Depew of Coppell; their son Matthew Depew of Plano; and his sister Barbara Depew of Dallas.
A Celebration of Michael’s life will be held at Holy Covenant UMC, Carrollton on November 20 at 2 p.m. Everyone is encouraged to come and share your memories. [1901 E. Peters Colony, Carrollton, 972/492-2432]
Instead of flowers we ask that friends make a donation to VistaCare Hospice - Dallas, 7557 Rambler Road Suite 112, Dallas, TX 75231, or other hospice which you have benefited from their loving kind care for the.
From Michael in 2000 when he joined Mobil "MoveON" Alumni:
Our son, Matthew is 12 and will be entering the 7th grade in the fall. He's doing great in school (He'll be taking his math with the 10th grade advanced math class this fall). Even with all his "smarts", he's a good kid. However, he's still got a year until the weird "teenager" stage. Tricia is still doing volunteer work at McFadden Ranch Boys Correctional Facility (and I do a little occasionally). She is doing GED tutoring, 12-step drug and alcohol counseling and work-skills training at the Ranch. Since I just retired in April, I'm just getting started on volunteer work. I'm doing middle school and high school advanced math and science tutoring as well as doing a little computer building and reconditioning of donated computers at our church. I'm looking for non-profit groups that have multiple PCs that they want to setup with Internet access through cable modem or DSL using a firewall appliance to protect their network. I'm willing to do the installation and train someone in the organization on support issues. I'll even do this for for-profit organizations that will donate a fee directly to charity for the work.

Memorial for Harry Dunn
From Tom Roza:
I received last night a call from Chinn Dunn who told me that her husband Harry Dunn had passed away on January 9, [2013] from kidney failure. Harry worked at Mobil from I think 1972 until 1993. Harry was a very close friend and we talked every week by phone during the Football season - Harry was a big Pro Football fan.
From Tom Roza:
Harry Dunn was 67 years old and was born in Nebraska. He served in the [United States] Navy during the Vietnam War and met his wife Chinn during his Navy service. After being honorably discharged from the Navy, Harry and his wife settled in Dallas where he got a job with Mobil Oil as a Tape Librarian I think in 1973. Harry worked in Computer Operations until around 1982 when he transferred to the Systems Programming department. In that job, Harry provided technical support for a number of software products that ran on the IBM mainframes. When the first round of layoffs started in 1993, Harry decided to take a severance package and left Mobil at that time. Harry had a number of jobs after he left Mobil and retired a few years ago. He owned a house in Plano, TX where he lived for the past 40 years. Harry and Chinn had no children that I know of. Harry loved Pro Football and he and I would call each other every weekend during the football season to discuss the games and teams.
From Tom Roza:
Harry started with Mobil in Dallas. I don't know the year, but he was already there at least a year as the 2nd Shift Tape Librarian when I arrived in Aug 1974.”
From Vern Ruuska:
Harry worked for John Rentmeester
From Joe D'Auria:
Chancey Miller always told me that when Harry was an operator on the evening shift, he would clean up all of the job backlog on the queue. He was very good at his job.
From Patsy Colon:
All that I know about Harry was he would laugh a lot, seem to take things very lightly, pretty much a happy guy to be around
From Debbie Bridges-Pattee-Anderson
I remember Harry. I worked with him in Computer Operations (around 1975 - 1978). He brought his lunch to work and it always smelled really wierd (because his sweet wife fixed his lunch)! Harry was quiet and serious most days. But he had a unique laugh, as well. .
