The Statendam was a 10,491 gross ton vessel commissioned in 1898 and lasted until 1910 supporting passengers in saloon, cabin and steerage. The family consisted of George 46 years passenger 12, Maria 40 years passenger 13, Johann 20 years passenger 14, Anton 18 years passenger 15, Anna 16 years passenger 16, Mathias 14 years passenger 17, George 12 years passenger 18, Joseph 10 years passenger 19, Ludwig 8 years passenger 20, Michael 5 years passenger 21 and Baptist 4 years passenger 22. Their final destination in Milwaukee was identified to be his brother-in-law John B. Kuchenreuther, 2601 Lisbon Avenue, Milwaukee, Wisconsin.
The entire family in their Declaration of Intentions for Naturalization identified 3 October 1903 as the arrival date.
Godas is a tiny old village about one km north of Waldeck and 5 kms east of Kemnath. During the 30 years war, this village and most of its inhabitants were completely destroyed by the troops of Colonel van Sackendorf on 8 February 1641. In 1997, 70 people lived in the village of Godas and a little over 4,000 in Kemnath.

Memories as related by her daughter Teresa. "After my mother died, she was the oldest and had to be the head of the family. Her father (Adam) had inflammatory rheumatism. His legs would swell so big. They had their spread around Verona where she herded cattle on foot/horseback, but with her dog. There were no fences. She would wrap her legs with gunny sacks for the winters were so cold. I have a picture of her and her sisters Maggie and Katie and brother Sam and her mother (Katie Schulteis Peas) with cattle near the creek."
