Family Newsletter

Issue #9, December 2002
Editors Notes:

We wish for all a very joyous holiday season. May you and yours cherish these moments for this holiday season will not happen again. May we be thankful for all that we are and for all that we have been. May the Lord watch over our family, our relatives and friends, and spare our brothers and sisters in this worldly and turbulent world we live in. May we come to see that we are not here to gather but to give and to inspire.

Some have expressed surprise that announcements have not been made in the newsletter while others expressed that the pictures seem to be centered around a small number of families. Yes, I agree, but I am only able to pass information on to you as I receive it. Regarding pictures, I am afraid the same is also true there. I can only share with you that which I have or that which someone has shared with me.

You may have noticed over these many newsletters that in each one a certain family line will be highlighted and in the next it will be another. The reason for this is twofold, first is information availability and second is research effort. I have found that I am unable to fully concentrate on multiple family lines at the same time. So each year one family line is addresses. Last year it was Katharina Appolonia Schulteis-Peas. This year it was the Siegl family. You just can't do everything at once. At first I thought I could but I was also a bit naive as sometimes expectations and reality are not necessarily aligned.

The majority of my time this year was spend in web site generation and historical research.

Genealogy:

Have taken what I consider to be a giant step forward by creating a web site and placing on it the history of the family, St. Boniface Parish, St. Mary Parish, the Township of Germantown and the Township of Richfield. For both St. Boniface in Germantown and St. Mary in Richfield you will find a list of interments in their respective cemeteries. For the Township of Germantown, you will find interments for all the cemeteries in the township.

The web site identifies ancestors of the Schulteis, Siegl/Siegel, Wolf, and Ott families through 1920. Since this information is being shared with the world, information is limited to birth, marriage, death, and burial events. The site's address is:

http://freepages.genealogy.rootsweb.com/~djschulteis/index.htm

The book, A History of St. Boniface, will be published in 2003. It will have photos, exhibits and many anecdotes which are all missing from the web version. The book is presently being proofed.

Regarding Germantown and Richfield, if you should have pictures of the area or historical information which you would like to share, this would be much appreciated.

Starting this year the newsletter is available via the Internet. Each year the number of copies grew when two years ago it reached 285 families. Last year because of the copy cost to get to you good pictures, especially that of Herman and Gertrude, I had to reduce the distribution to 100. I did not like to do this but I had no choice. Therefore the push to get a web presence. Am also making last year's newsletter available online for those who did not receive it. Distribution this year is to 311 families.

In order not to have the newsletter generally available to the world at large, my web site does not identify that a newsletter exists. To access the newsletter, you will need to manually identify it and then bookmark it. After that you can use your bookmark to get to it. The newsletter's web address is-

http://freepages.genealogy.rootsweb.com/~djschulteis/newsletter/

Will continue to mail out newsletters but only to those who do not have a web presence. For the rest of you I will announce the availability of the newsletter via email each December. If you received a mailing and have Internet access, would appreciated if you would let me know. Drop me an email. Thank you.

The hard copy version of the newsletter and the internet version will be pretty much identical. The internet version though may contain more photographs and be more up to date. Come back and check later. As information about the year 2002 is uncovered, it will be added.

Challenge:

In this issue, I am hoping you can help to identify family members who attended the Herman and Gertrude Schulteis family reunion which took place in 1922 or 1923. 1922 was the year they celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary. You might compare your pictures of these individuals which may have been taken about this time as this could help in your identification. Anyone know the name of the dog and who he may belong to?

Following can be seen who were there and who we have identified.

Picture shared with us by Loretta Julia (Schulteis) Fenske through Dolores (Schulteis) Stafford.

There are some 16 family members remaining to be identified. Can you find these individuals?
