As recorded in a historical publication of the times: Anton Henseler is deserving of prominent mention among the foremost business men of Wood County, and is not only prominent in commercial affairs, but has been a leader in politics. His example is encouraging, for it shows what can be accomplished by men of perseverance and determination when they have no capital or influential friends to aid them in the journey of life. Written in 1895.

He came from a family of eleven children, six of whom now survive, namely: Lizzie, Anton, John, Catharine, Mary, and Nicholas; Gertrude died in 1888, the other in infancy. The father is a carpenter by trade, and followed that pursuant in the land of his birth until 1868, when with his family he emigrated to America, taking up his residence in Fond du Lac county, Wisconsin, where he engaged in carpentering for nine years. He then came to Wood county, locating upon a farm in Lincoln township. He now owns forty acres of land in Section 23, that township, whereon he makes his home --one of the substantial and respected agriculturists of the community.

Anton was a child of four summers when his parents crossed the briny deep. He was educated in German and English in the common and parochial schools, and remained at home until twenty-four years of age, giving his father the benefit of his services. On attaining his majority he learned the trade of cheese making in Fond du Lac county, and in the spring of 1885 he built his present factory, the second one in this section of the country. Since that time he has successfully engaged in the manufacture of cheese, his factory having the capacity of about seven thousand pounds of milk daily. During the season of 1894 he purchased and handled four hundred thousand pounds of milk, shipping the most of his products to Oshkosh, Wisconsin, where, being of an excellent quality, they found a ready sale on the market. His factory is conducted after the ? approved style, is a model of neatness, and the excellence of his cheese is shown by the fact that at the World Columbian Exposition , held in Chicago in 1893, he received a metal and diploma on his exhibit of cheese. During the past season he paid to the farmers of the community three thousand dollars, and he only operates his factory for about six months of the year.

With the Catholic Church they hold membership, and contribute liberally for its support. Mr. Henseler belongs to the Order of Catholic Knights of Wisconsin. In his political views he is a stalwart Democrat, and has frequently served as delegate to different conventions, but had never been an office-seeker, although he is now serving his second term as town treasurer. Other positions of trust have been conferred upon him, and he is ever true to his duty whether public or private.
